Everton have reportedly made contact for Flamengo right-back Wesley, with the Toffees seemingly willing to match another bid for the defender.
According to O Dia via Sport Witness, Everton are reportedly interested in signing Brazilian right-back Wesley and could make a compelling offer to test Flamengo. The player was considered the best right-back in the Brazilian league, as more than one club are chasing the South American defensive prodigy.
Everton are seemingly looking at good additions to their squads in January as Sean Dyche wants to make absolutely sure to avoid relegation at all costs. The Toffees are currently not in danger of dropping down to the second division, although a few bad results could drag them near the bottom three.
Whether Everton have the necessary funds to get some names into the team remains to be seen, although they do have a few areas to strengthen. For instance, they might look at a new striker as the Toffees might be forced to sell star man Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is already running down his existing deal and they do not want to lose him on the free.
They are also focused on keeping star defender Jarrad Branthwaite from the clutches of the other big club while being linked with the likes of Victor Lindelof to strengthen their backline. A new right-back might also come into consideration given how vulnerable they are in that area.
Their current options there are veterans, Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young, as neither of those is not getting any younger. Nathan Patterson is also an option, but Dyche has barely used him, as the manager seeks someone who can bring about a difference from that role and help transition into the attacking third.
Everton keen on Flamengo’s Wesley
One of the names on Everton’s radar is that of Flamengo star Wesley. The South American defensive prodigy has been of interest to some of the Premier League and European clubs. The report insists that the Brazilian side have already rejected bids from Bournemouth and Aston Villa, while AC Milan are open to offering €20 million.
Flamengo are expected to turn the Milan bid, as Everton are willing to match the Rossoneri offer. The Brazilian side reportedly wants around €30 million, which might seem a bit ambitious, although the €20 million mark or slightly more could do the trick.
