Everton will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old Turkish international Yunus Akgun this month, and a loan move might be on the cards.
According to a report by Football Insider, Yunus Akgun is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees have been scouring the market for a wide attacker heading into the winter transfer window. So, the 24-year-old Galatasaray winger has emerged as a target, and a mandatory purchase clause alongside a loan deal might do the trick for the Merseyside outfit.
Yunus Akgun and his career so far
Yunus Akgun has struggled for stability since turning professional. A native of Istanbul, the Turk spent his formative years with Galatasaray, joining the Super Lig powerhouses as an eight-year-old in 2008. He rapidly progressed through the ranks before breaking into the first-team squad as an 18-year-old in August 2018.
However, regular game time came at a premium for Akgun before embarking on three loan spells away from Galatasaray. The 24-year-old was instrumental in Leicester City securing promotion to the Premier League after a productive 2023/24 campaign. The player returned to Galatasaray last summer and has been solid thus far this term.
Akgun has contributed to 16 goals in 23 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net ten times and providing six assists. Meanwhile, the Turkish winger’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Everton will be one of his prospective suitors this month.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Everton’s interest in Yunus Akgun is understandable. Sean Dyche wants more firepower in the final third, with Jack Harrison blowing hot and cold. While Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil have been impressive, Everton can do with more options in the offensive unit. So, several candidates, including Hakim Ziyech, have emerged on the Merseyside club’s radar.
However, Akgun is also a viable target for Everton, considering his experience in English football. While the Premier League will offer a different challenge, the Turk has the quality to succeed in the top flight. However, Everton can only land the Galatasaray winger on loan by proposing a mandatory purchase clause.
The Super Lig champions are open to parting ways with the 24-year-old Turkish international if they receive a loan bid with a mandatory purchase clause in it. It will be interesting to see if Akgun returns to England by joining Everton in the coming weeks.
