Flamengo have turned down a €15 million offer from Unai Emery’s Aston Villa for their Brazilian defensive sensation Wesley.
According to Venê Casagrande, Aston Villa have failed in their attempt to sign Brazilian defender Wesley. Unai Emery’s team are keen on adding more depth to their backline and they had their eyes set on the Flamengo full-back. They submitted a significant offer to secure his services but their offer has been turned down by the Brazilian outfit.
Wesley joined Flamengo at the start of 2021. He started with their Under20s and eventually got promoted to the first team in 2023. The full-back has only gone from strength to strength over the last 18 months and he already has over 100 appearances for them.
The 21-year-old has a bright future ahead and multiple top clubs are interested in signing him. While his contract at Flamengo runs until the end of 2028, Wesley will most likely be on the move in 2025.
Aston Villa want Wesley
Aston Villa are one of the clubs that are interested in the Brazilian full-back. Unai Emery’s team are currently 9th on the points table things are not really going their way. They are looking at the winter window to reinforce their squad and get things back on track.
Emery is keen on adding more depth and quality at the back and he is believed to be a big admirer of Wesley. With Matty Cash the only out-and-out option at right-back, Villa surely need to bring in a new right-sided full-back.
Flamengo reject Villa’s initial offer
They feel the 21-year-old could be a great acquisition for the short as well as the long run. As a result, they recently knocked on the doors of Flamengo with a €15 million. The Brazilian outfit were not really pleased with that offer and they turned it down.
Given the amount of interest in Wesely, Flamengo are unlikely to keep hold of him for long but they will only let him leave on their terms. With their initial bid rejected, it will be interesting to see if Villa return with an improved offer in the coming weeks.
