Arsenal and Crystal Palace will compete with multiple Premier League clubs to sign 22-year-old Burkina Faso international Nasser Djiga from Red Star Belgrade.
According to a report by Spanish outlet El Periodico Aragon, as relayed by Sport Witness, Nasser Djiga might soon arrive in England to embark on an adventure in the Premier League. Arsenal and Crystal Palace are vying for the signature of the 22-year-old Red Star Belgrade centre-back, while Brentford and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also keen on securing his services.
Who is Nasser Djiga?
Nasser Djiga is the latest highly-rated African prospect to rise in prominence at a European club. A native of Bobo-Dioulasso, the youngster spent his formative years in Burkina Faso and graduated from the youth division at Vitesse FC. He has been in Europe since 2021, turning out for clubs in three countries.
Red Star Belgrade initially signed the 22-year-old on a season-long loan deal in September 2023 before completing a permanent move in the summer transfer window last year. Djiga has turned out over 50 times thus far for the Serbian giants while chipping in with three goals and two assists.
Meanwhile, Djiga’s progress at Red Star Belgrade has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe, including Arsenal and Crystal Palace. In addition, other Premier League outfits are also keen on signing the Burkina Faso international.
London calling?
Arsenal’s interest in Nasser Djiga is understandable. While Mikel Arteta has a stacked defensive unit in his squad, Jakub Kiwior and Takehiro Tomiyasu face an uncertain future at the Emirates. So, Arsenal should invest in a young centre-back who can be the understudy to William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.
However, Djiga might get regular game time at Crystal Palace, considering Marc Guehi will leave sooner rather than later. So, the 22-year-old African centre-back can form a long-term central defensive partnership with Maxence Lacroix and Trevoh Chalobah, provided the latter completes a permanent move.
Meanwhile, Brentford and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also keen on signing the Burkina Faso international this year. So, an adventure in the Premier League might be on the cards for the highly-rated centre-back.
