Tottenham face West Ham United battle for Ben Godfrey

Ben Godfrey has been linked with a move away from Atalanta, with Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham vying for his signature.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are in the race to sign 26-year-old Atalanta defender Ben Godfrey. The Englishman needs to leave the Serie A club in search of regular playing time, and moving to West Ham or Tottenham could be an exciting opportunity for him.

Godfrey is yet to start a single game this season, and he will be hoping to play more often at this stage of his career. The 26-year-old has previously shown his quality in the Premier League, and a return to his homeland would be ideal for him.

West Ham need defensive reinforcements, especially considering Jean-Clair Todibo has not been able to live up to the expectations. The Hammers have been conceding goals freely, and they need to tighten up at the back if they want to finish in a respectable position.

The East Londoners were expected to push for European qualification this season, but they have been quite poor and it remains to be seen whether they can bounce back strongly. Meanwhile, recent reports have linked West Ham with other centre-backs, including Fikayo Tomori.

Spurs need defensive reinforcements

Tottenham need to sign a quality central defender as well and have their sights set on Ben Godfrey. They have struggled with multiple injury problems at the back, and the 26-year-old could be a useful option for them. He could partner Radu Dragusin at the heart of the defence while Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven continue to recover from their injury problems.

The 26-year-old will certainly be tempted to join a club like Tottenham, and it will be interesting to see if the North London outfit can secure an agreement with Atalanta. But the Englishman has not started a single game for them this season, and it is fair to assume that they could be open to selling the player for the right price.

Tottenham will look to get their starring campaign by contract, and they will look to secure European qualification for the next season. They will need to plug the weaknesses in their side if they want to finish the season strongly. Signing a quality central defender should be their top priority.
