Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing 25-year-old French defender Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool next year.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid are considering a move for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, and it remains to be seen whether they come forward with an offer to sign him.
The French defender, who cost Liverpool £35 million, has established himself as a key player for the Reds since joining the club from RB Leipzig, and he is one of the first names on the team sheet. The French international is currently sidelined with an injury, but he is an indispensable asset for the club.
It is highly unlikely Liverpool will sanction his departure anytime soon. There have been rumours that the player could commit his long-term future to the club as well. It remains to be seen how the situation develops.
Liverpool are currently fighting for the Premier League title and they will be hoping to compete for major trophies regularly. The Merseyside outfit must hold on to their best players for that to happen.
Real Madrid keen on Alexander-Arnold as well
Konate is not the only Liverpool defender on Real Madrid’s radar. Los Blancos are trying to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer as well. The England international will be a free agent at the end of the season, and Liverpool have not been able to agree on a contract extension with him.
Meanwhile, Konate is unlikely to push for a move away from Liverpool, and it will be difficult for the Spanish giants to convince the Reds to sell a key player. The Reds do not need to sell players for money, and they will be determined to hold on to the French international.
They are powerless to stop Alexander-Arnold from leaving because of his contract situation. However, that is not the case with Konate, and Liverpool are expected to hold firm. The Reds could lose club captain Virgil van Dijk at the end of the season as well.
The Dutch international will be out of contract, and they have not been able to agree on an extension with him. Konate remains the best defender at the club after him, and therefore, they will not want to lose him at any cost. However, van Dijk should soon sign a new contract.
