Serie A title contenders Atalanta, Inter Milan, and Napoli are reportedly interested in signing 27-year-old out-of-favour attacker Federico Chiesa from Liverpool this month.
According to a report by La Stampa, as relayed by FC Inter News, Federico Chiesa might return to Serie A after only six months with Liverpool. Scudetto contenders Atalanta, Inter Milan, and Napoli are keen on signing the Italian international on loan until the end of the 2024/25 season. However, all three clubs will require monetary support from the Merseyside outfit to seal a deal, as they cannot afford his €7.5 million-a-year wages.
Federico Chiesa and his Liverpool limbo
Federico Chiesa has struggled to make his mark since joining Liverpool from Juventus in the summer transfer window. While the deal appeared out of nowhere, many questioned the sensibility of the decision to sign the former Fiorentina winger.
The 27-year-old has managed only 123 minutes of game time across four appearances thus far for Liverpool while chipping in with one assist. However, despite his struggles, Chiesa’s stock in the market remains high. A quick return to Serie A might be on the cards for the former Juventus attacker, with Atalanta, Inter Milan, and Napoli vying for his signature.
Serie A return on the horizon?
Atalanta can do with a player like Chiesa in the winter transfer window as they look to mount a Serie A title challenge in the second half of the 2024/25 season. Gian Piero Gasperini’s men are atop the standings, and Gasperini might feel he should have an alternative to Charles De Ketelaere, Mateo Retegui, and Ademola Lookman. So, the versatile Italian attacker is a viable target.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan’s interest in Federico Chiesa is understandable. Joaquin Correa and Marko Arnautovic have faced an uncertain future at San Siro heading into the winter transfer window. So, the reigning La Liga champions need a versatile attacker, with the Liverpool misfit emerging as a viable target.
As for Napoli, Antonio Conte wants more firepower in the final third, with Chiesa emerging as a target for the Partenopei. However, Atalanta, Inter Milan, and Napoli require monetary assistance from Liverpool to seal a loan deal this month.
Chiesa pockets €7.5 million-a-year wages at the Merseyside club, and the three Serie A title contenders do not have the funds to afford a deal for him. So, it will be interesting to see if Liverpool will bear part of his wages to temporarily part ways with the 27-year-old Italian international.
