Crystal Palace in transfer tussle to sign Sergi Altimira

Crystal Palace are interested in signing Sergi Altimira in the January window, although any move will prove complicated for Real Betis.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Crystal Palace are one of the clubs keen to bring 23-year-old midfielder Sergi Altimira in this month’s window. The Spanish midfielder has been a top performer in La Liga for Real Betis, and it would be complicated for the Andalusian side to part ways with their key star in the middle of the season.

A few Premier League sides are monitoring Sergi Altimira ahead of a winter move. The Spanish midfielder has been integral to Real Betis this season, as they have set sights on a place closer to the top four. The 23-year-old has been a big presence, especially in the absence of players like William Carvalho and Marc Roca.

Betis do not necessarily envisage selling one of their best performers this season and will look to resist offers unless someone comes with a big proposal. The Verdiblancos are not planning to sell him under his current valuation, although it is unclear how much they want for Altimira should some of the club’s approaches.

As for the interest, most of it is coming through the Premier League, with Crystal Palace and Southampton among those keen. The Eagles are interested in strengthening their squad after a recent revival following a terrible start to the season.

They are in the market to strengthen several positions, including midfield, with Nicolo Fagioli also a player of interest for the Eagles. Southampton are also eager to strengthen in the hope of having a team capable of helping them survive the relegation ordeal, although, at this point, they are the clear favourites to go down at the end of the season.

Will Real Betis sell Sergi Altimira?

Real Betis have always done business for the right price, as they have not had a healthy financial position for the last few years. The Andalusian outfit have always had to tread a tightrope when it comes to transfers, and they could consider a big offer if it comes through the door for Altimira.

However, the Spanish side are leaning more towards keeping hold of one of their top performers this season. While they will expect to get big money for the 23-year-old Spaniard, the bigger challenge is to replace him, as the winter transfer window is always a tricky place to replace talents.
