Liverpool unlikely to spend heavily in January

Arne Slot’s Liverpool have made a few changes to their winter transfer plan following an impressive start to the 2024/25 season.

According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool are unlikely to make any major investments in the upcoming transfer window. Despite having the budget to go big, they will take a conservative approach in the winter window.

The Reds hardly did any business in the summer after the arrival of new boss Arne Slot. They added Federico Chiesa to their squad and struck a deal for Giorgi Mamardashvili who will be joining them ahead of next season.

With Chiesa being their only signing, the Merseyside club’s fans were not really pleased with their work in the market. The Reds were heavily criticised for their approach and the fact that they had not backed Slot by bringing in players who could be a better fit in his system.

While the Dutch manager was keen on adding a new defensive midfielder and they did go after the signature of Martin Zubimendi, things didn’t work out for the Reds.

Liverpool have now taken a U-turn in their pursuit of a new midfielder as Ryan Gravenberch has thrived in that role. With Cutis Jones and Alexis MacAllitser also in the form of their life, they are no longer in need of defensive reinforcement.

Liverpool won’t do much in the winter

Slot’s team are also unlikely to make any major moves in the January window as the players at his disposal have been doing most things right. They are currently top of the Premier League and have already made it to the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

With things going according to plan, Liverpool are convinced that they have enough quality in their squad. They have decided against making any major moves despite having the funds to make key additions to Slot’s team.

The Dutch tactician and the club’s management are quite satisfied with the level of their squad given the kind of start they have provided. Unless there is a major injury to any of their regulars, Liverpool are expected to have a relatively quiet transfer window. For now, their focus is on renewing the contracts of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
