Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have hit a snag in their pursuit of Manchester United superstar Marcus Rashford.
Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are two clubs who are interested in signing Marcus Rashford but the financial side is making things difficult. According to a report from Fichajes, the English international’s massive wages could pose a problem for interested clubs.
Rashford has been one of the star forwards for United for some time now. While he was at the peak of his powers during the 2022/23 season, things have only gone downhill for him in recent years.
He hasn’t been able to return to his best and the arrival of Ruben Amorim hasn’t really helped his cause. The Portuguese manager is not happy with his efforts in training and has kept him out of the squad in their last four outings.
With Rashford not getting regular first-team action, his future has become a massive talking point. The English international has already hinted that he is ready for a new challenge and United are also ready to sanction his departure. But, his high wages and the length of his contract, which runs until the summer of 2028 complicate things.
A move to Spain looks unlikely
The 27-year-old is keen on parting ways with his childhood club in the upcoming transfer window and there has been a significant amount of interest in his services. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are both interested in signing him.
They consider him an ideal fit for their system and he can surely add a lot of quality in the final third of the pitch. But, both Spanish clubs are reluctant to make a move because of his massive salary and his recent form. The United star earns in excess of £300,000 a week and it is a significant obstacle for both clubs who don’t have the best of financial situation.
Apart from the financial side of things, they are not really sure if they want to bet on someone who has been struggling for form for some time now. Rashford also have significant interest from the Middle East as well as Turkiye and it will be interesting to see if he consider moving there at this stage in his career.
