Manchester United keen on Bart Verbruggen

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United are interested in acquiring the services of Brighton shot-stopper Bart Verbruggen.

Ruben Amorim is keen on signing a new goalkeeper as he looks to add more quality to the defensive side of things. Manchester United are interested in the services of Bart Verbruggen and according to a report from the Daily Star, the Red Devils are plotting a raid on Brighton for his signature.

Verbruggen joined Brighton in the summer of 2023 and has only gone from strength to strength since. The 22-year-old has established himself as a key figure in their first team and his performances have attracted a lot of interest from across Europe.

While he might have only kept four clean sheets in his 17 outings this season, Verbruggen has showcased his abilities as well as his huge potential. His contract at Brighton runs until the summer of 2028 but he could soon end up joining a bigger club.

Manchester United are the ones who are interested in his signature as they look to add more quality at the back. The Red Devils forked out £47.5 million to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023.

Amorim wants to sign a new goalkeeper

He had a poor debut campaign at the Manchester-based club and things haven’t really been that great for him of late. Onana has been considering his future since the start of the new season. Amorim’s arrival has further complicated things for the 28-year-old.

The Sporting manager is not entirely convinced with his performances and wants to bring in a new short-stopper. Apart from Onana’s uncertain future, Altay Bayindir could also be sold next summer. As a result, the Red Devils are looking at Verbruggen as an ideal signing for the short as well as the long run.

With three years still left on his deal at Brighton, United will most likely have to spend around £30 million to acquire his services. While he is a key figure at the Seagulls, they could look to sanction his departure for a decent feel having signed him for just £16.3 million 18 months back. United might be keen but will have to wait until next summer to get a deal over the line.
