AC Milan ready to sell Fikayo Tomori, Newcastle United lead race

Newcastle United are reportedly in the pole position to sign 27-year-old French international Fikayo Tomori from Serie A club AC Milan.

According to a report by Caught Offside, Fikayo Tomori is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the two transfer windows next year. So, the AC Milan defender has emerged as a target, with the Serie A giants demanding around €35-38 million to part ways with the English international.

Fikayo Tomori and his AC Milan journey

Fikayo Tomori has been one of the best defenders in Serie A since joining AC Milan from Chelsea. The Rossoneri initially signed the Englishman on loan in January 2021 before completing a permanent move in the subsequent summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old has turned out over 150 times thus far for AC Milan while chipping in with seven goals and one assist. However, Tomori’s stock has fallen in recent months, and he has been in and out of the starting lineup at San Siro thus far this season.

That has not deterred the English defender’s prospective suitors, with Premier League outfits, in particular, setting their sights on him. The Canada-born defender might soon return to England, with Newcastle United among the clubs keen on securing his services next year.

Premier League return on the horizon?

Newcastle United mulled over signing Fikayo Tomori in the summer transfer window before the deal failed to see the light of day. The continued interest in the Englishman is understandable, considering the ageing central defensive unit in Eddie Howe’s squad. Jamaal Lascelles, Dan Burn, and Fabian Schar are on the wrong side of 30.

So, Newcastle United should invest in a centre-back, with Tomori emerging as a viable candidate. The former Chelsea centre-back has considerable experience in the Premier League and should not take long to settle down at St. James’ Park. The latest report has boosted Newcastle United’s prospects, with AC Milan ready to cash in on Tomori.

The Serie A giants will demand around €35-38 million to part ways with the 27-year-old English international, with Juventus also keen on securing his services. However, Newcastle United are the front-runners to sign Tomori, and a return to the Premier League might be on the cards.
