Arne Slot’s Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement with their defensive mainstay Virgil van Dijk on a new deal.
According to a report from Fichajes, Virgil Van Dijk is all set to put pen to paper on a new deal at Liverpool. The Reds have reached an agreement with the Dutch international to extend his stay at the club until the summer of 2028.
Jurgen Klopp pushed the Merseyside club to break the bank and sign Van Dijk at the start of 2018 from Southampton. While it did cost a massive fee to bring him to Anfield, the 33-year-old has successfully repaid every penny with consistent performances.
He has been a key figure in their team over the years and played a massive part in all the success they had under the German manager. While he wasn’t in the best of forms in recent seasons, Van Dijk seems to be back at his best under Arne Slot.
He has featured in all their league and Champions League games and has been a rock at the back. The Reds are at the top of the league as well as the UCL table and Van Dijk’s performances have played a massive part in it.
Van Dijk agrees new deal
While the Liverpool skipper is still one of the first names on their team sheet, his future was uncertain with his contract running out at the end of the season. The Merseyside club’s fans were worried about losing one of their stalwarts.
The Reds have been working on a potential renewal for months but they were unable to find a breakthrough. However, the report suggests they have finally managed to strike a deal with the Dutch centre-back. Everything points towards the 33-year-old penning a new deal at Anfield.
