Manchester United’s new boss Ruben Amorim wants to bring in another world-class defender in the next summer transfer window.
Manchester United are unlikely to make any big moves in the upcoming transfer window as they have some financial concerns. While they might not be able to give Ruben Amorim what he wants just yet, the Red Devils are already planning for the next summer window when they will have the funds to work with.
The Portuguese manager has already identified a key area that needs reinforcement. According to a report from Football Insider, United will look to sign a world-class centre-back ahead of the 2025/26 season at the request of their new manager Amorim.
The Manchester-based club spent a significant fee to bolster their backline ahead of the ongoing season. They forked out a massive fee to sign Leny Yoro and Matthijs De Ligt at the request of Erik ten Hag. Unfortunately, they had to part ways with the Dutch manager and replace him with Amorim.
Ruben Amorim seeks defensive reinforcement
The former Sporting boss has implemented a system involving a back three and he now wants to sign a top-class defender. Despite the arrival of Yoro and De Light, he feels the need for another key addition in that area of the pitch.
He has already given Maguire a chance to revive his United career and is pushing hard to get him a one-year extension clause triggered. The Red Devils don’t want to see him leave for free and could eventually look to sell him next summer after extending his contract until the summer of 2026.
With Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof’s contracts running out defensive reinforcement has to be a top priority. They need to bring in someone who can ensure they have enough depth as well as strength at the back. Amorim wants a rock-solid defensive foundation and he will push the Manchester-based club to sign the best possible centre-half next summer.
While finances will be a problem in the winter, they will be free of any financial concerns in the summer and the Portuguese manager will be backed in the transfer window to get the players he needs to succeed at Old Trafford.
