Manchester United have reportedly identified 27-year-old Brighton and Hove Albion winger Kaoru Mitoma as a candidate to replace Marcus Rashford next year.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Kaoru Mitoma is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a wide attacker ahead of the two transfer windows next year amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Marcus Rashford. So, the 27-year-old Brighton and Hove Albion winger has emerged as a target.
Kaoru Mitoma and his rise in the Premier League
Kaoru Mitoma has established himself as one of the best wingers in the Premier League since joining Brighton and Hove Albion from Union Saint-Gilloise nearly two and a half years ago. A native of Kawasaki, the Asian attacker spent his formative years and most of his career thus far in Japan.
However, the 27-year-old has seen his stock soar during his spell with Brighton and Hove Albion, going from strength to strength in the last two and a half years. Mitoma has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for the Seagulls while chipping in with 16 goals and 15 assists.
Meanwhile, Mitoma’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on securing his services, and the Japanese international has been on Manchester United’s radar for a long time.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Manchester United’s interest in Kaoru Mitoma is understandable. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a new attacker ahead of the two transfer windows next year amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Marcus Rashford.
The English international does not have a future at Manchester United, with the Red Devils ready to part ways with him in the January transfer window. So, the Premier League heavyweights must identify potential candidates to replace Rashford, with Mitoma emerging as a viable target.
The Japanese international has considerable experience in the Premier League and should not take long to settle down at Old Trafford. In addition, Mitoma’s abilities make him an option for the left wing-back berth in Ruben Amorim’s system, apart from a more advanced role. So, it will not be surprising to see Manchester United pursuing the Brighton and Hove Albion winger next year.
