Barcelona are reportedly all set to battle it out with Arsenal for the services of Sevilla midfield sensation Lucien Agoume.
According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport via Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are interested in the services of Lucien Agoume, who seems to enjoying life at fellow La Liga club Sevilla. The Catalan giants consider him an ideal option to bolster their midfield. and they are ready to rival Arsenal. who are also keen on his signature.
While things did not really work out for Agoume at Inter Milan, the move to La Liga club Sevilla has given him the opportunity to showcase his true potential to the world. He joined the Andalusian outfit on an initial loan deal at the start of 2024.
After an impressive short spell, Sevilla decided to make the move permanent in the summer as they purchased 50% of the player’s rights for just €4 million. His contract runs until the summer of 2028 but he is unlikely to be around for long as the interest in the 22-year-old is increasing at a rapid rate.
The French youth international has featured in a total of 18 matches for Sevilla across competitions. He has been a rock in front of the backline. His defensive work rate and his ability to stay calm under pressure have put him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Arsenal keen on signing Lucien Agoume
Arsenal are one of the clubs who have taken note of his performances. They have built an interesting project under Mikel Arteta and are constantly looking for players who can help them take the next step. With Thomas Partey already 31 and his contract running out at the end of the season, there are high chances of him leaving the club.
The Gunners have already started planning for life without him. and they have identified Lucien Agoume as an ideal fit for their system. The youngster has the potential to be a special player and his performances in the Spanish top flight suggest he belongs at the highest level.
Barcelona to rival the Gunners
While the North London club are keen on his signature, they will face significant competition for his signature from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are constantly on the lookout for players who can help them take the next step.
They want to add more quality to their midfield and want to bring in someone who can strengthen the pivot. Having watched Agoume in action from close quarters, Barcelona feel he has what it takes to succeed for Hansi Flick.
The Blaugrana are considering adding him to their ranks in 2025. Sevilla currently only have 50% of the player’s rights, but they do have the option to buy another 40% for just €4 million. They could look to trigger that option and then book a profit with his sale in the near future.
