La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly willing to fork out €30 million to re-sign 27-year-old French international Theo Hernandez from AC Milan.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Theo Hernandez is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for a left-back and have set their sights on the AC Milan full-back. The Merengues are ready to cough up €30 million to re-sign the 36-cap French international next year.
The rise of Theo Hernandez at AC Milan
Theo Hernandez has been one of the best players in Serie A since joining AC Milan from Real Madrid in July 2019. The Frenchman was instrumental when the Rossoneri won the Serie A title in the 2021/22 season. While the Italian giants have blown hot and cold in recent campaigns, the player has maintained his levels.
The 27-year-old has turned out nearly 250 times thus far for AC Milan while chipping in with 31 goals and 41 assists. However, Hernandez faces an uncertain future at San Siro due to his worsening relations with Paulo Fonseca.
The situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Real Madrid will be one of the prospective suitors to sign the 36-cap French international next year, although they have set a transfer fee limit of €30 million.
Real Madrid return on the horizon?
Real Madrid’s interest in Theo Hernandez is understandable. While Carlo Ancelotti has two left-backs in his squad, a closer look reveals the deep-running issues. While Ferland Mendy has blown hot and cold this season, Fran Garcia has not convinced the decision-makers to make him the first-choice left-back for Real Madrid.
So, Hernandez has emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid, with Los Blancos aiming to re-sign him for €30 million next year. Reports a few months ago suggested that the 27-year-old Frenchman would be willing to return to the Santiago Bernabeu, meaning a deal could see the light of day.
However, a move might face hiccups if AC Milan’s asking price is more than €30 million. That will force Real Madrid to wait until Hernandez’s contract with the Serie A giants expires before re-signing him. So, it will be interesting to see if the 36-cap French international returns to Real Madrid next year or in the summer transfer window of 2026.
