Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid are interested in acquiring the services of Tottenham skipper Son Heung-min.
According to a report from Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are keen on adding Son Heung-min to their squad and they would pounce on any opportunity to sign the South Korean international on a free transfer next summer.
Son made a name for himself while playing in the German top flight. He came up the ranks at Hamburger SV and after a two-year spell in their first team, he ended up joining Bayer Leverkusen. The South Korean winger took his game to the next level and eventually secured a move to Tottenham in the summer of 2015.
He from strength to strength with every passing season and established himself as one of the best attackers in the Premier League. The 32-year-old has featured in a total of 427 matches for their first team and has contributed 259 goals (169 goals, 90 assists).
Son might not have managed to end their title drought but he will surely go down as one of the greatest to have played for them given the kind of impact he has had over the last decade. While he is still going strong with nine goals and seven assists in his 19 outings, the South Korean international’s future at the club is uncertain with his contract running out at the end of the season.
Atletico Madrid want to sign Son
Spurs are yet to make any significant development with regards to a new deal. While they are expected to try everything in their power to keep hold of their star winger, he could choose to walk away. If the former Leverkusen star decides to try a new experience, Atletico Madrid are ready to offer him an opportunity to continue playing at the very highest level.
Diego Simeone’s team are looking for more power firepower in the final third of the pitch as they look to compete for all major titles. They feel Son’s experience and his ability to feature anywhere in attack could come in handy.
With the player expected to be available for free, the Madrid-based outfit should not have any difficulty in incorporating him into their first team as long as his salary demands are within their reach. While Simeone’s team are interested, they will have to wait for Son to make a decision on his future as continuing at Tottenham hasn’t been ruled out yet.
