Liverpool have put forward an improved contract offer to Trent Alexander-Arnold as they look to extend his stay at Anfield.
According to a report from CaughtOffside, Liverpool have submitted a revised contract offer to their defensive mainstay Trent Alexander-Arnold as they look to secure his long-term future. With Real Madrid waiting for an opportunity to pounce, the Reds are trying everything in their power to keep hold of their academy graduate.
Alexander-Arnold came up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to the Merseyside club’s first team back in 2016. He has been an important part of the senior side since the start and played a massive part in all the success they had during the Jurgen Klopp era.
The English international remains a key figure under Arne Slot. He has been involved in 19 fixtures and has contributed towards four goals. The 26-year-old’s consistent performances are one of the reasons why they are top of the Premier League as well as the Champions League.
While everything is going according to plan on the pitch, they have a lot to worry about with the contracts of Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk running out. Salah and Van Dijk are already on the wrong side of 30 but the English full-back is in the prime years of his career and the Reds do not want to lose out on him.
Real Madrid’s interest in the Liverpool star
Real Madrid are the ones who are keen on his signature. They have been keeping a close eye on his situation for months and they reportedly have a meeting scheduled for January as they look to step up their pursuit. Alexander-Arnold is a top priority for Los Blancos as they look to bring in someone who can replace Dani Carvajal in the long run.
While talks have been ongoing for months, the team in white hopes to have a meeting with the full-back’s entourage early in January to speed things up. The Merseyside club are well aware of Real Madrid’s pursuit of their star and they are looking to try everything in their power to keep hold of him.
Liverpool’s revised offer for Alexander-Arnold
Their initial renewal offer was deemed to be not good enough but that hasn’t stopped them from trying. The Reds have returned with a better offer. They have proposed a four-year contract which will see him earn around €20 million per year.
While it is a massive offer, the player hasn’t made a decision on his future as yet. He seems to be playing the waiting game amidst interest from Los Blancos.
