Atletico Miniero have entered the race to sign forgotten Arsenal winger Marquinhos, as talks of a loan move in January emerge.
According to Trivela, Atletico Miniero are interested in signing 21-year-old Arsenal forgotten prospect Marquinhos ahead of the January window. The winger had returned to Brazil and has been playing for Fluminense, and now he could have a chance to stay in his homeland for longer.
Edu Gaspar felt it was a market opportunity to secure the signing of Marquinhos two years ago when the winger was available on the cheap from Sao Paulo. The 21-year-old did make a bright start for Arsenal, mostly in the cup games and the Europa League, as Mikel Arteta never really trusted him to start.
At the time, it was seen as a decent signing and cover for star man. Bukayo Saka, but with time, it did not work out for all parties concerned. He did spend time out on loan with Norwich City and then the first half of last season with French side Nantes.
He returned from his loan at Nantes prematurely last January, and Fluminense held talks with Arsenal to take him on a year-long loan deal. The Brazilian side had a buy option in the contract. As things stand, they are not preparing to activate it, meaning Marquinhos will return to Arsenal when the January window opens.
While Arteta does not rate him, Marquinhos is expected to leave the club on another loan as Arsenal will hope that this time, there’s a far more concrete permanent solution in place. Internacional were considered the favourites to land the 21-year-old winger, and it appears the Brazilian side are set to face intense competition from rivals Atletico Miniero.
Atletico Miniero keen to sign Marquinhos
The report emphasises that Internacional have held extensive talks to take Marquinhos on loan that will come with a purchase option. The details of the same remain under wraps, but there is enough evidence of Atletico Miniero’s interest in competing for the 21-year-old Arsenal forgotten prospect.
Atletico Miniero are open to taking the winger to their team, although it’s unclear where their position is in the race for the Arsenal player. Overall, Marquinhos is expected to have decent offers to remain in Brazil for the foreseeable future, as the Gunners will hope the next loan bears a permanent solution to his future.
