Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco are plotting a raid on Everton for the services of their attacker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
According to a report from Football Insider, AS Monaco have their eyes set on Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin. They seek more quality in the final third of the pitch and feel the English international could be a great addition to their ranks given his attributes and his experience.
Calvert-Lewin has not been at his best in the last few seasons. The Englishman has struggled with injuries, and his form has not been that great. In the ongoing campaign, he only has two goals and an assist in his 15 Premier League outings. While the numbers might not be there, he still remains a key figure in the Merseyside club’s first team.
But, his future is uncertain as his contract runs out at the end of the season. While Everton would love to extend his stay at the club, Calvert-Lewin seems to have other ideas. He will be free to negotiate a pre-contract with foreign clubs during January and multiple clubs are paying close attention to his situation.
AS Monaco pushing for Calvert-Lewin’s signature
AS Monaco are one of the clubs who are interested in the 27-year-old. While the English international is nowhere close to his best, the Ligue 1 outfit are still willing to bet on him as they feel he can still turn things around with quite a few years left in his career.
They ideally want to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer next summer after his contract at Everton runs out but a January deal for a cut-price fee is also considered a possibility. If the Toffees fail to convince him about penning a new contract, the upcoming window will be their last opportunity to cash in on him.
The Merseyside club will give it a serious thought, but they will only let go of Calvert-Lewin in January if they receive a fee that is good enough to help them secure a replacement. With the club fighting to survive the top flight, the English forward could end up being very crucial.
As far as AS Monaco are concerned, they have been keeping a close eye on him. Their scouts were in the stands of the Emirates Stadium to watch him in action against Arsenal on Saturday. The Ligue 1 giants are quite keen on acquiring his services but they do not really seem to be in any rush as Calvert-Lewin is looking to run down his deal and leave for free next summer.
