Tottenham are interested in Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk to strengthen a key area of the squad, although a January move seems unlikely,
According to TBR, Tottenham United could focus on bringing Pascal Struijk ahead of January. The Leeds Unites stand-in Skipper has established himself as a key member of Daniel Farke’s side and has considerable experience in the top flight, as Spurs is thinking about a move in the winter market.
Tottenham are having one of the worst defensive crises owing to a raft of injuries to their key stars in those back positions. Micky van De Ven has suffered numerous hamstring problems since he arrived at the club in 2023, while Cristian Romero has also been suspected of problems more often than not.
At the moment, both the first-choice centre-backs are absent for an extended period, while backup defender Ben Davies is also missing with a hamstring problem. Postecoglou has resorted to using young midfielder Archie Gray alongside Radu Dragusin, with the latter the only fit recognised centre-back in the squad right now.
Tottenham have considered re-calling Ashley Phillips back from his loan, although there are doubts the club will follow through on that idea, given it could affect his development. The main idea here is to sign a quality defender in January, as there are numerous links to some players.
Getafe’s Omar Alderete is an option, and owing to his modest release clause, Spurs are seriously thinking about the 27-year-old. The idea is centred around bringing in a left-footed star to provide competition and cover for Van de Ven. Leeds United’s Pascal Struijk has now emerged as a viable target ahead of January.
Leeds United unlikely to sell Pascal Struijk in January
Struijk has considerable experience in Premier League football, which did come with Leeds United prior to their relegation. The Belgium-born Dutchman would likely entertain the prospect of returning to the top flight, especially as Tottenham, Brighton and Wolves are interested. The other two sides are eager to strengthen their backline to finish the season strongly.
Wolves could be a club where Struijk might get far more regular game time compared to Tottenham or Brighton. The latter could have a good arc for his development, but Spurs represent the most high-profile club of the lot. With Leeds United vying to make a top-flight return next season, keeping the 25-year-old Championship captain would be crucial to their chances, meaning they are unlikely to sell him now.
