Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United will prioritise the signing of a new left-back in the upcoming transfer window.
Manchester United are expected to undergo quite a few changes in January following the arrival of Ruben Amorim at the club. While the Portuguese manager has only been at the club for just over a month, he has already identified areas that need reinforcement.
According to a report from Football Insider, the Reds Devils will go hard to sign a new left-back in the upcoming window. Amorim seeks more quality in that position and he has made it their top priority heading into his first transfer window as United’s boss.
While the former Sporting CP manager is keen on reinforcing his squad, he doesn’t have the budget to play with. The Manchester-based club had to fork out significant funds to sack Erik ten Hag and they appointed Amorim as his replacement.
Apart from that, the Red Devils had spent millions on new signings in the summer. As a result, they won’t be able to make any big moves in January. However, United could look to sign players on loan to bolster Amorim’s squad.
A new left-back is a top priority
They could explore that market for a stop-gap solution that can help them address the issues at left-back. Luke Shaw has picked up yet another injury which has forced the Portuguese manager to use Diogo Dalot on the opposite flank.
While they do have Tyrell Malacia in their squad, he has recently returned from a long-term injury and his game time needs to be managed very carefully. Amorim feels bringing in a new left-back could significantly help them as it will allow him to play Dalot on his preferred flank.
The former Sporting boss has made it a priority for the upcoming window and United’s recruitment team are already working to see if they have an ideal candidate available. As far as shaping the rest of the squad goes, Amorim will most likely have to wait until next summer to get the kind of players he needs to better implement his system.
