Newcastle United keen on Malick Thiaw, Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Malick Thiaw and Ruben Loftus-Cheek from AC Milan, with the Serie A club keen on Sandro Tonali.

According to an update by Italian journalist Alessandro Schiavone, Malick Thiaw and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are the subjects of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are scouring the market for a centre-back and a versatile midfielder, and the latter can replace Sandro Tonali, with the Italian international emerging as a target for the English international in a deal worth €40 million.

Malick Thiaw, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and their AC Milan muddle

Malick Thiaw and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have been in and out of the starting lineup throughout their stints with AC Milan. The former has been with the Rossoneri since August 2022, arriving from FC Schalke 04 over two years ago. While the youngster has shown flashes of brilliance, he has not been consistent enough during his spell at San Siro.

As for Loftus-Cheek, the Englishman joined the Serie A club from Chelsea in July 2023 and has endured a topsy-turvy ride at San Siro since then. The 28-year-old has turned out over 50 times thus far for AC Milan while chipping in with ten goals and three assists.

While the two AC Milan players have failed to establish themselves as undisputed first-choice starters for the Rossoneri, their stock in the market remains high. Newcastle United will look to sign the German international and the versatile English midfielder from the Serie A club next year.

Will Newcastle United sign the AC Milan duo?

Newcastle United’s interest in Malick Thiaw and Ruben Loftus-Cheek is understandable. The Magpies are keen on signing a centre-back and a versatile midfielder next year, with the AC Milan duo emerging as viable targets. Thiaw is a long-term target for Newcastle United, with the Tyneside outfit also mulling over securing his services in the summer transfer window.

With Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles, and Dan Burn on the wrong side of 30, Newcastle United can do with a centre-back. Meanwhile, Sandro Tonali’s uncertain future makes Loftus-Cheek a viable target. Interestingly, Tonali is a target for AC Milan, with Alessandro Schiavone suggesting that the Serie A giants want to re-sign the Italian international in a deal worth €40 million.

AC Milan will aim to complete the payment of €40 million in 2-3 instalments. Alternatively, the Serie A giants are ready to re-sign Tonali in a part-exchange deal involving one of Thiaw and Loftus-Cheek. It will be interesting to see if the AC Milan duo moves to St. James’ Park while Tonali returns to San Siro.
