Manchester United have stepped up their interest Girona full-back Miguel Gutierrez following Ruben Amorim’s approval.
While it has been just over a month since Ruben Amorim has taken charge of Manchester United, he has already found a few key issues that need to be addressed in the upcoming transfer window. The Portuguese manager wants to bring in a new left-back and according to a report from TEAMtalk, he has given the green light to United’s pursuit of Miguel Gutierrez.
The Spanish international has been a consistent performer for Girona over the last 18 months, and the Red Devils believe he could help their cause going forward. While they have been linked with quite a few left-sided full-backs, Gutierrez seems to be quite high on their wishlist.
The Spaniard’s profile has emerged in recent weeks, and Manchester United are already pushing hard to secure his services in January following the approval of their manager. Miguel Gutierrez came up the ranks at Real Madrid. While he did get promoted to their first team in the summer of 2022, there was no room for him in their team, and they ended up selling him to Girona.
Gutierrez already has 98 appearances for their first team and has even contributed towards 22 goals. He played a massive part in their top-four finish last season and was a part of the Spanish side that won the Gold at the Paris Olympics in the summer.
Manchester United looking to sign Gutierrez early in January
While Miguel Gutierrez still has over two years left on his deal, he is reportedly pushing for a move away from the club. Manchester United have identified the 23-year-old as a concrete target, and they are looking to make the most out of his current situation.
The Red Devils are looking to negotiate a lower fee than his €35 million release clause. But it won’t be that easy as 50% of his future sales have been promised to his previous club Real Madrid. Girona would ideally like to maximise their profit by receiving half of his release clause.
Since the Spanish international can feature as a full-back as well as a wing-back, he will be an ideal fit for Amorim’s system at Manchester United. He could be the long-term replacement for Luke Shaw, who has been struggling to stay fit.
With the former Sporting CP boss in favour of his arrival, Manchester United have intensified their contacts with Gutierrez’s entourage. They seek all the necessary details to get a deal over the line early in January. They are looking to put their foot on the accelerator and get it done as soon as possible.
