Aston Villa formulating fresh loan plan for Louie Barry

Aston Villa might soon recall 21-year-old English attacking prospect Louie Barry from his loan at Stockport County and send him to a bigger club in the January transfer window.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Louie Barry has been exceptional for Stockport County thus far in the 2024/25 season. However, Aston Villa might soon recall the English attacking prospect from the League One club and send him on a temporary stint to a club at a higher level, with Middlesbrough in the pole position to secure his services.

The Louie Barry story

Louie Barry has had to bide his time before becoming a fixture in the first-team squad of a top-flight club. The Englishman was once among the most highly-regarded prospects in his homeland, with exploits for West Bromwich Albion earning him a move to Barcelona in July 2019.

However, the 21-year-old had to leave Barcelona after only six months, with Aston Villa securing his services in January 2020. Since then, Barry has embarked on half a dozen loan spells away from the West Midlands club: Ipswich Town, Swindon Town, MK Dons, Salford City, and two stints with Stockport County.

Barry has been exceptional during his current spell with Stockport Country, amassing 15 goals and one assist in 20 appearances across all competitions. The English winger’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of Aston Villa. The Villans are not formulating new loan plans for the young attacking sensation.

What next?

Aston Villa might recall Louie Barry from his loan spell with Stockport County. However, the highly-rated attacking prospect will not slot into the first-team squad at the West Midlands club, with another loan spell on the cards for him in the January transfer window.

The Villans want to assign him to a club at a higher level than Stockport County, with several EFL Championship outfits setting their sights on him. Sheffield United, Coventry City, Middlesbrough, Queens Park Rangers, and Stoke City are Barry’s prospective suitors, with Boro in the pole position to sign the Englishman on a loan deal until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Recent reports have also linked the 21-year-old English attacking prospect with Tottenham Hotspur. However, a potential move to the North London club will unlikely see the light of day until the 2025 summer transfer window.
