Real Madrid are reportedly keen to bring Lisandro Martinez to the Bernabeu, with Manchester United’s stance on this situation a bit tricky.
According to TBR, Real Madrid could target a move for Lisandro Martinez ahead of future windows. The Spanish giants have set sights on a number of top Premier League defenders, with the Manchester United man part of that list. However, it will be very difficult to sign the Argentine, but not impossible.
Manchester United paid over £50 million to bring Lisandro Martinez at the request of former manager Erik ten Hag, quite immediately after the Dutchman’s appointment as their manager then. The Argentine defender has been one of the better Ten Hag signings and is now an important part of the Red Devils.
New manager Ruben Amorim seems to trust Martinez in his backline, as the Portuguese boss looks to build his team around a few individuals, including the Argentine. However, the defender’s future at Old Trafford could come under some doubt as Real Madrid is now considering making a move.
Real Madrid has had to deal with defensive injuries this season, including the ACL problems suffered by Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao. The latter suffered the same problem last year, and now there are big concerns over his long-term future at the club. They are already keen on Cristian Romero, although Tottenham are not interested and are open to offering a new contract to the Argentine.
Similarly, Real Madrid have considered William Saliba as a key target, although Arsenal are not interested in any sale and are now planning on a contract extension for the Frenchman. Those injuries to key stars in the Madrid backline have opened the door to revamp their defensive setup, as they are targetting a few more stars from the Premier League, including Martinez.
Will Martinez leave Manchester United for Real Madrid?
The prospect of joining Real Madrid or Barcelona is always a dream for most South American stars, and Martinez might be a part of that group. Manchester United are interested in Jarrad Branthwaite, which could open the possibility of Martinez leaving and then the club using the money to bring the Everton defender.
Manchester United will not consider any offers for Martinez in their current state, although the Spanish giants can look to open talks over a move next summer. Things will depend on the money on offer as well as the player’s wish, as this operation will be an expensive one for Florentino Perez.
