Martin Zubimendi set for Real Sociedad stay in January

Martin Zubimendi continues  to be linked with a move away from La Liga, but he is set to stay at Real Sociedad in January.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Arsenal and Liverpool are keen on signing Martin Zubimendi, but he is unlikely to leave La Liga club Real Sociedad midway through the season. The report further states that he has a preference towards Real Madrid.

It will be interesting to see if the La Liga champions are willing to sign him at the end of the season. Arsenal and Liverpool could certainly use more quality and depth in the midfield, and Zubimendi would have been an exceptional acquisition.

There is no doubt that the Spaniard is one of the best midfielders in La Liga, and he has proven himself for club and country. The 25-year-old would improve Arsenal immensely, and he would be a major upgrade on Italian international Jorginho.

Similarly, Liverpool have been trying to sign the player for months. He snubbed a move to Anfield in the summer transfer window. He could have been the ideal replacement for Thiago Alcantara, who left the club upon the expiry of his contract this past summer.

There were rumours that the two English clubs could look to make a move for the Spanish international in January, but it seems that the player is unlikely to be on the move. The development will come as a major blow for them once again.

Can Real Madrid get a deal done?

It remains to be seen whether they are prepared to wait for the player until the end of the season. Competing with Real Madrid could prove to be difficult. Not only do they have immense financial resources, the player prefers to join them as well. In addition, they have a proven track record of winning major trophies on a consistent basis and any player would be attracted to the idea of joining them over other clubs.

Real Madrid need to start planning for a future without key midfielders like Luka Modric, and Zubimendi would be a solid long-term investment for them. He knows La Liga well and he could make an instant impact at his new club if he joins them.
