Arne Slot’s Liverpool are quite optimistic about agreeing on a new deal with their attacking mainstay Mohamed Salah.
Mohamed Salah’s future has been a massive talking point of late. The Egyptian international’s contract is running out and he has been linked with quite a few top clubs. Liverpool fans are quite concerned about his potential leaving the club at the end of the season but according to a report from TEAMtalk, the Reds are confident that he will put pen to paper on a new deal.
The Merseyside club have taken concrete steps in contract negotiations with the 32-year-old winger in recent days and they are confident that a common ground will soon be reached between the two parties.
After failing to make a name for himself at Chelsea, Salah got his career back on track with AS Roma and then returned to the Premier League in the summer of 2017. He has gone from strength to strength since joining Liverpool and has helped them win all major titles.
Salah will surely go down as one of the best players to play for the Reds given what he has done for them. But, he isn’t done yet. The 32-year-old has 24 goal contributions (13 goals, 11 assists) this season in just 20 outings. He is one of the main reasons why Slot’s Liverpool are nine points clear at the top in the Premier League.
While he remains one of the first names on the team sheet under the Dutch manager, his future is a big talking point. The Egyptian international’s current deal runs out at the end of the season and there is a significant amount of interest in him from the Middle East.
Salah could soon sign a new deal
Salah could choose to walk away as a free agent but as of now, the Reds want him around for a few more years. They feel he is still a very important part of their first team and are pushing hard to renew his contract. They have taken significant steps to negotiate a new deal with the former Chelsea winger.
They are confident about getting it over the line. The Reds want to ensure he pens a new deal before the turn of the calendar as foreign clubs will be able to open pre-contract talks with him in January if a new deal hasn’t been signed by then.
He prefers signing a new two-year deal. One of the major reasons for his willingness to pen a new deal is his desire to lift the coveted Balon d’Or. The 32-year-old feels staying at Liverpool will give him the best chance to win the award. A move to Saudi Arabia might not help his cause. Renewal talks will intensify over the next weeks and it will be interesting to see how things pan out.
