Wolverhampton Wanderers want to tie Matheus Cunha to a longer contract amid the Brazilian attacker’s links with Manchester United.
According to a report by Football Insider, Matheus Cunha is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on signing a versatile attacker in one of the two transfer windows next year. However, Wolverhampton Wanderers are keen on extending the Brazilian international’s contract and ward off their fellow Premier League club.
Matheus Cunha and his journey so far
Matheus Cunha has landed on his feet since joining Wolverhampton Wanderers from Atletico Madrid. A native of João Pessoa, the South American attacker spent his formative years in his homeland and graduated from the youth division at Coritiba. However, he struggled for stability after arriving in Europe, with stints with FC Sion, Hertha BSC, and Atletico Madrid yielding little success.
Wolverhampton Wanderers initially signed Cunha on loan from Atletico Madrid in January 2023 before completing a permanent move in the subsequent summer transfer window. The 25-year-old has been exceptional thus far this season, amassing seven goals and three assists in 13 Premier League appearances.
Meanwhile, Cunha’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the Brazilian international, with Manchester United among his prospective suitors.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Manchester United’s interest in Matheus Cunha makes sense. The Red Devils are keen on reinforcing their offensive department by signing a versatile attacker next year. Ruben Amorim has already shown his intentions by deploying Joshua Zirkzee, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho in fluid roles.
So, Cunha has emerged as a viable target for Manchester United, with the Red Devils ready to launch the offensive to secure his services. However, Wolverhampton Wanderers do not want to lose their prized possession. So, the Black Country outfit will look to tie the former Atletico Madrid forward to a long-term contract by extending his current deal.
It is unclear if Cunha is ready to commit his long-term future to Wolverhampton Wanderers amid his emerging links with Manchester United. It will be interesting to see if the Red Devils can turn the 25-year-old Brazilian international’s head and compel him to snub an extended deal with the Premier League club.
