La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly exploring the prospect of signing 20-year-old South African winger Relebohile Mofokeng from Orlando Pirates.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Relebohile Mofokeng is the subject of interest from FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a wide attacker ahead of the two transfer windows next year. So, the 20-year-old Orlando Pirates winger has emerged as a target for the Blaugrana.
Who is Relebohile Mofokeng?
Relebohile Mofokeng is the latest highly-rated prospect to rise in prominence in Africa. A native of Sharpville, the promising winger spent his formative years in South Africa, starting his youth career at Transnet School of Excellence before graduating from the youth division at Orlando Pirates.
The 20-year-old broke into the first-team squad at Orlando Pirates towards the end of the 2022/23 season before growing in stature last term. Mofokeng, who has already turned out over 50 times for the South African club, has enjoyed a solid 2024/25 campaign, chipping in with six goals and eight assists in 22 appearances across all competitions.
Mofokeng’s exploits for Orlando Pirates have helped him break into his national squad, and he made his senior bow for South Africa earlier this year. Meanwhile, the young winger’s progress has compelled pundits to hail him as Africa’s next big talent. In addition, he has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Barcelona.
La Liga adventure on the horizon?
Barcelona’s interest in Relebohile Mofokeng is understandable. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a wide attacker ahead of the two transfer windows next year amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Ferran Torres.
So, several candidates, including Nico Williams, are on Barcelona’s radar, with Mofokeng also a viable target. The last 12 months have witnessed the Blaugrana making heavy investments in promising African prospects, including David Oduro, Aziz Issah, Ibrahim Diarra and Arouna Traore. So, it is hardly surprising that Mofokeng has cropped up on Barcelona’s wishlist.
With Barcelona exploring the possibility of signing the 20-year-old South African winger, we might see him become the latest African whizkid to join the Catalan outfit. It will be interesting to see if the Catalan giants secure his services next year.
