Liverpool keen on Momodou Sonko

Liverpool are interested in making a move for KAA Gent star Momodou Sonko ahead of the future window to strengthen their attack.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are interested in a move for Momodou Sonko, as a January transfer could yet materialise. The KAA Gent star has been likened to Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka for his style of play, as the Reds are eager to freshen up their attacking options for the future.

Liverpool are facing a big challenge ahead of the future, as Arne Slot will have some work to do in terms of the squad building. There are further doubts about the futures of three key stars, including Mohamed Salah, as the club may take a different approach to replace the Ergytian should he end up leaving.

Liverpool consistently looks at younger talents to refresh their squad ahead of the future. One of them is PSV winger Johan Bakayoko, and there’s also some interest in Momodou Sonko, much in the same vein as the Belgian star.

Sonko is already likened to Arsenal star Bukayo Saka for his style of play, and Liverpool had previously shown interest back in January. The KAA Gent star is not seen as a replacement of sorts for Salah and is instead viewed to compete with some of the younger core at the club like Harvey Elliott, Conor Bradley and Jarell Quansah.

How much the 19-year-old would cost in the next window remains to be seen, as he does have a contract at KAA Gent until 2028. Liverpool will see this as a comparatively cheaper acquisition and might be open to the idea of investing in the young winger.

Arne Slot to lay down his plans

The January window might come at the right time for Liverpool, and Arne Slot could use this as an opportunity to strengthen their squad. The position both in the Premier League and Champions League might force the club’s baord to spend on the right players, and with it, they can also bring in the depth options like Sonko.

Arne Slot will be eager to stamp his signature on this squad once the futures of certain stars become clearer. Players like Sonko might be seen as essential for the squad building, but to keep the side competitive at the highest levels, Arne Slot will have to attract the top talents in the market.
