Newcastle United stepping up interest in Jonathan David

Newcastle United are set to ramp up their interest in Jonathan David but faces plenty of challenges ahead in luring the in-demand Canadian striker.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United could turn the notch in their chase of Jonathan David, as the club are willing to take a big step forward. The Canadian striker has garnered massive interest from top clubs who are eager to take advantage of his contractual situation, which will be a challenging prospect for the Magpies.

Newcastle United are keen to bolster their attacking end ahead of January, and looking for a winger ahead of the winter window. They are also considering bringing in a striker, although with Callum Wilson returning to fitness, the position is not seen as an immediate necessity.

However, Wilson’s contract expires next summer, as Eddie Howe is widely expected to replace the 32-year-old with a younger option. The striker’s market being an expensive one, the Magpies will look at all available options, as they are interested in Jonathan David.

The 24-year-old Ligue 1 star has been angling a move out of LOSC Lille for a few years now, and this time around, he will get his wish. David is coming to the end of his contract and is unlikely to leave the club in January, despite the French side being open to a sale then. This is the last chance for them to cash in on his talents.

David is keen on a Premier League switch amid interest from many top clubs. His financial demands may be seen as a stumbling block for many interested parties. Chelsea is one of those keen, as they are seeking a new striker to compete with Nicolas Jackson in the future. West Ham is also interested, meaning Newcastle United faces plenty of competition already as the 24-year-old Ligue 1 star makes his big summer move.

Will Newcastle United sign Jonathan David?

Newcastle United are in the mix for David and are set to ramp up their interest in the 24-year-old Ligue 1 star going forward. Any move to St James Park will depend on many factors, especially the finances involved in the deal, as the Canadian man is set to demand a significant pay package as a free agent.

Hence, any move for David will not be straightforward as it may come down to the project and money being offered. Moreover, suppose Newcastle United fail to qualify for the Champions League. In that case, it will diminish their chances of signing the forward, with other, more illustrious clubs likely to have a better run at the 24-year-old Ligue 1 star.
