Manchester United may have to pay Wolves a record fee to sign Matheus Cunha, with the striker likely to move only next summer.
According to Molineux-News, Matheus Cunha will only leave the club for a record-sale price as Manchester United continue to circle the Brazilian. The attacking star has been one of the stars under Gary O’Neil. There are big challenges for suitors to sign him in January, as a summer move seems more favourable.
Matheus Cunha could have a host of clubs queuing up for his signature if Wolves are to give an indication about their willingness to sell. The Midland side are likely to concede defeat in their efforts to keep hold of the Brazilian, as they have consistently sold their best performers over the last many years.
Last summer, they sold Pedro Neto to Chelsea at a club-record price and are now expecting more to sell Cunha. Wolves are aware of the growing interest in the Brazilian and will demand between £50-60 million, which could potentially see them break their sales record if the current forward were to leave.
Tottenham and Manchester United are keen on Cunha. The Premier League giants are eager to bolster their attack with the Brazilian following a stellar start to his Wolves season. The 25-year-old has scored seven goals and provided three assists so far in 12 Premier League games, which are good numbers.
Manchester United, in particular, are making overtures to see if the player would be interested. The Red Devils were keen back in the summer, but their budget then probably restricted a signing like the Brazilian, although they might re-visit the idea in future windows.
Matheus Cunha unlikely to leave in January
Cunha, like other players on the lower side of the table, will want a bigger challenge and will probably agree a move to one of Manchester United or others. However, given Wolves are expected to stay in a relegation fight in the second half of the campaign, Gary O’Neil will not want to lose his star attacker midway through the season.
Moreover, Manchester United are seen as the most serious suitor as of now. However, they may not have the funds to carry out an operation that will cost them £50-60 million in January. Hence, taking everything into account, a summer move might seem highly likely for Cunha rather than a winter window transfer.
