Newcastle United are keen to bring in a new winger on the right side of their attack on priority ahead of the January window.
According to Football Insider, Newcastle United are eager to sign a new right winger ahead of the January window. Eddie Howe considers that side of the front three a problem area he wants to strengthen, as his current players have not worked out in the wide areas.
Newcastle United had plans to bring in a top-draw centre-back in the January window after failing with multiple bids for Marc Guehi in the summer. The injuries to Jamal Lascelles and Sven Botman have seen Eddie Howe shuffle his plans at the back, and they are also linked with a few names ahead of January.
However, with Botman now inching closer to a return, Eddie Howe and director Paul Mitchell could revisit their plans for the next window and alter it. The Magpies are not considering a right winger as priority in January, as Howe feels that side of the front three needs more forepower.
Miguel Almiron is already working on an exit from the club, while Jacob Murphy has yet to prove he’s the right man to start weekly. In recent games, Howe has preferred to use Antony Gordon, although England International prefers to operate from the left-hand side.
Hence, Howe is prioritising bringing in a new winger in the next window as he chases a top-four place. The left-hand side has not contributed to the attack, as Newcastle United have the fewest top-flight goals this season of any team in the top half of the table.
Newcastle United’s winger options for January
Newcastle United have set sights on several players ahead of January, with Howe wanting a specific style of profile for that role. PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko remains a target for the Magpies, with the Belgian likely to be made available in the winter market.
They are also keen on Bryan Mbuemo of Brentford, although this will be a very difficult deal as the Bees will demand the kind of money Newcastle United may not be able to afford in January. Hence, they might go for someone like Bakayoko, provided he falls within their stipulated budgets, as Howe wants a new winger at all costs in January.
