Arsenal and Manchester United suffer a massive blow in their pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres as the Sporting CP ace wants to join Barcelona.
Viktor Gyokeres has become one of the most sought-after players in the world thanks to his incredible form in front of goal. The Swedish international is on the wishlist of Arsenal as well as Manchester United. Both English giants are keen on adding him to their ranks but he has turned down the opportunity to join either of the Premier League clubs.
According to El Nacional via Fichajes, the Sporting CP striker wants to join Barcelona and he has turned down the opportunity to move to England. Gyokeres has put any potential deal with the Gunners and the Red Devils on hold as he looks to fulfil his dream of playing for the Catalan giants.
The Swedish forward made a name for himself while playing for Coventry City in the second division of England. He then secured a move to Sporting in the summer of 2023. The 26-year-old seems to have taken his game to the next level since moving to Portugal.
He bagged 43 goals and 15 assists in his debut campaign and has carried on in a similar fashion this time around with 24 goals and four assists in just 19 outings. His exceptional performances haven’t gone unnoticed. Multiple top clubs from across Europe are keen on his signature.
Premier League giants keen on Gyokeres
Arsenal who have been on the lookout for a new number nine are interested in the Swedish international. With Gabriel Jesus’ future uncertain and Kai Havertz not an out-and-out striker, Mikel Arteta wants to bring in a proven goal scorer.
While Manchester United invested in young forwards in recent windows, the arrival of former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim has heavily linked them with Gyokeres. There are high chances of Joshua Zirkzee leaving and the former Coventry star could a sensational upgrade in attack.
Gyokeres wants to join Barcelona
Both English giants are keen on his signature but the 26-year-old is keen on joining Barcelona. He is a big fan of the Spanish outfit and is willing to wait to see if they do make a move to sign him. With Robert Lewandowski in the twilight of his career, the Catalan giants will surely consider the idea of signing him.
Gyokeres’ ability on the ball, his speed, tactical understanding and finishing make him just the perfect fit for Hansi Flick’s team but the finances involved will make it tricky for them.
