Manchester United and Tottenham are among those showing interest in Wolves striker Matheus Cunha, but a January move seems difficult.
According to TBR, Manchester United and Tottenham are keen to sign Matheus Cunha in January, although Wolves are unlikely to sanction a sale then. The two teams are eager to bolster their attack with a new signing in the winter window, and the Brazilian’s form has made him a suitable candidate.
Matheus Cunha has come to the fore over the last few weeks following some big performances for Wolves. Gary O’Neil’s side had struggled all season to get their first win and have now managed two on the bounce. Their victories over Southampton and Fulham, with Cunha finding the net in either of those fixtures.
A goal against the Saints and two against Fulham have taken Cunha’s tally to seven for the season, which, with the three assists, brings it to ten goal contributions in 12 games. These are good numbers for a player in a team fighting relegation, which has already attracted some big interest from top teams.
Manchester United held an interest in the summer and could return to knock on Wolves’ doors ahead of January. The Red Devils are interested in bolstering their attacking ranks with a regular goalscorer and could look at the £43 million Brazilian forward as a potential option to improve their forward line.
The Red Devils could prioritise a left-back in January, and if they have the funds beyond that, then a move for someone like the £43 million Wolves man could be on the cards. Tottenham are also in the mix, although they too, are prioritising a defensive signing first and foremost, as an attacker could also feature on their agenda.
Wolves are unlikely to sell Matheus Cunha in January
Tottenham or Manchester United could approach the Wolves man, but the Midlands side are unlikely to sell him in January. With their season still in a difficult place, O’Neil will ideally want more funds to bolster his squad in the winter market and keep hold of his top performers like Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri.
Moreover, Wolves paid a massive fee of £43 million for the Brazilian, meaning he will cost a whole lot more to leave the Midlands side. Hence, there’s the big issue of having that level of funds for his suitors, as any move in January may seem unlikely at this point for either Manchester United or Tottenham, who also have other priorities in the winter window.
