Manchester City are reportedly considering making a move for Crystal Palace midfield sensation Adam Wharton in January.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Manchester City are keen on acquiring the services of Adam Wharton and they are all set to knock on Crystal Palace’s door at the start of 2025. Pep Guardiola’s team are looking for an ideal replacement for the injured Rodri, and Wharton is quite high on their wishlist.
The 20-year-old defensive midfielder came up the ranks at Blackburn Rovers. He was already a massive name in the world of football while playing at the youth level. The Englishman got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2022 and has only gone from strength to strength since.
Wharton’s impressive rise resulted in Crystal Palace securing his services at the start of 2024. The Eagles have a reputation for snapping the best talents from the lower divisions of English football and allowing them to shine.
Adam Wharton has surely made the most out of the opportunities that he has had since moving to Selhurst Park. The English midfield sensation is already an important part of the Palace first-team, and his sensational rise has helped him secure his debut for the England national team.
He is considered one of the best young talents in the country, and there is no shortage of interest in him. Manchester City are one of the clubs who are looking to make a move for the 20-year-old. Pep Guardiola’s team haven’t been the same since Rodri picked up an ACL injury.
Manchester City want to sign Wharton in January
Manchester City have lost each of their last five games. With Rodri unlikely to be back from the start of next season, City are looking to sign a replacement in January, and Adam Wharton is quite high on their wishlist. The club’s scouts have been keeping a close eye on his progress and they are quite impressed with what they have seen.
While Crystal Palace have no intentions of selling the young sensation midway through the season, the Premier League champions are still willing to try their luck. The Eagles will have the upper hand in negotiations with his contract running until the summer of 2029, and they will demand a premium fee.
While Manchester City have financial fair play concerns, they do have the funds to test Crystal Palace’s resolve. Rodri has not ruled out a move to Real Madrid, and with his long-term future uncertain, going after Wharton surely makes a lot of sense.
