Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City could allow West Ham United midfield target James McAtee to leave next summer.

According to a report from Football Insider, James McAtee could leave Manchester City next summer. While multiple clubs are interested in signing him during the winter window, City will block any potential mid-season exit. But, they won’t stand in his way during the summer as they will have the opportunity to bring in a replacement.

McAtee has come up the ranks at the Manchester-based club. He got promoted to their first team following an impressive loan spell at Sheffield United. Unfortunately, he couldn’t break into Pep Guardiola’s first team for the 2023/24 season and had to go out on another loan.

After another impressive stint with Sheffield, he had finally made his way into Guardiola’s team. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has featured in a total of six matches for the senior side this season. The majority of his minutes have come in cup fixtures and he even has a goal to his name.

Despite only getting limited game time, McAtee is quite happy at City and people at the club are also pleased to see his progress. But, that doesn’t guarantee his continuity at the club as his contract runs out in the summer of 2026 and clubs in England are looking to lure him away.

West Ham are interested in the City sensation

West Ham are looking to reinforce their midfield and they would love to add the English youth international to their team in the winter. But, that is unlikely to happen as Guardiola won’t allow any departures mid-season following all the injuries his team has suffered.

But, City could be open to sanctioning his departure in the summer when he will only have a year left on his deal. The Hammers could look to make the most out of the situation.

While the young midfielder hasn’t played much first-team football for the Premier League giants, he has had impressive spells at Sheffield and his versatility could be of great use to the Irons. But, they won’t find it easy to strike a deal for his services as there are other English clubs who are interested in the 22-year-old midfield sensation.
