According to a report by Spanish outlet AS, Souza is gaining popularity in Europe amid his impressive performances for Santos. Barcelona and Chelsea are interested in signing the Brazilian left-back prodigy, who has drawn comparisons to his compatriot Marcelo with his exploits for the Brazilian Serie B club.
Who is Souza?
Joao Victor de Souza Menezes, better known as Souza, is the latest highly-rated prospect to rise in prominence in his homeland. A native of Maua, the South American full-back wonderkid has spent his formative years thus far with Santos, joining the club as a ten-year-old in 2016 before progressing through the ranks in the academy.
The 18-year-old broke into the first-team squad in the first few weeks of the 2024 season, making his senior bow in February 2024. The youngster has turned out eight times thus far for Santos while chipping in with two goals, with his style of play helping him draw comparisons to Real Madrid legend Marcelo.
