Barcelona have decided against making a move for Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah, who could be available for free next summer.
According to a report from Fichajes, Barcelona, who have a long-standing interest in the services of Mohamed Salah, have ruled out the possibility of signing him next summer. The Egyptian international’s contract runs out at the end of the season and he could be available on a free transfer, despite that the Catalan giants won’t be pushing for his signature.
Salah might not have succeeded at Chelsea but he did get things back on track at AS Roma and has only gone from strength to strength since returning to the Premier League in the summer of 2017. He transformed himself into one of the best forwards in the world under Jurgen Klopp and helped the Reds win all major titles.
At 32, he is still one of the best in his position and Liverpool would love to have him around for a few more years but his future isn’t certain. Salah’s contract at Anfield runs out at the end of the season and nothing concrete has happened so far regarding a new deal.
As things stand, the former Roma star could leave the club next summer as a free agent. While there is a significant amount of interest in him from the Middle East, Barcelona were also keen on adding him to their ranks.
Barcelona won’t push for Salah
The Catalan giants were looking to add one of the best attackers to their squad for free but it seems there has been a massive change in their stance. They are no longer interested in signing him as he no longer fits into their sporting project.
Following the emergence of Lamine Yamal and the sensational performance of Raphinha under Hansi Flick, Barcelona no longer feel the need to bring in another right winger. They want to ensure the focus is on developing Yamal into one of the world’s best, as a result, they have decided against bringing in Salah.
While the Egypt international would surely add a lot of quality, he will demand regular first team action which could hinder the development of their academy graduates. With Barcelona taking a back seat, it will be interesting to see where Salah plays his football next season.
