West Ham are eager to lure Archie Brown from KAA Gent, with the race likely to prove difficult due to the growing interest in the left-back.
According to Football Insider, West Ham United could endure a difficult time in luring left-back target Archie Brown in January. The level of competition for the KAA Gent star could prove challenging for the Hammers, as Jule Lopetegui targets a new player in a troubled position.
Emerson Palmieri and Aaron Cresswell are West Ham’s current options in the left-back position, with the former their first choice. Julen Lopetegui has struggled for relevance this season, and his leaky defence has been a big part of that.
Additionally, his full-backs are not able to offer any threat going forward, meaning a new player in either of those wide positions could be on the cards. Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey has emerged as a target, and owing to his current situation, he could be available on a cut-price deal in January.
West Ham are also chasing Archie Brown alongside a few other Premier League sides. The KAA Gent star has been impressive for the Belgian side, as he has a big chance to make a return to England, where he has previously spent time with Derby County’s youth sides.
The Hammers might make an approach for the 22-year-old Englishman in January, but the level of competition will make it highly challenging for them to lure the full-back. Manchester United was also interested in the summer, while Chelsea and Tottenham were also keen on bringing Brown to the Premier League.

Playing for KAA Gent will attract certain clubs, but there are doubts whether most of the interested parties are serious about signing him. As for West Ham, they intend to bring in a young full-back for the long-term future, as well as reduce their overall average age.
A move to the Hammers at this stage of their evolution would be good for the 22-year-old Englishman. He could potentially have a bigger chance of breaking into the starting eleven than on other sides like Chelsea, Tottenham or Manchester. Hence, a move to the London Stadium would be great for the young full-back, although any transfer would depend on the finances involved in the deal.
