Manchester City confident of agreeing on a new deal with Erling Haaland

Manchester City are confident of finding an agreement with Erling Haaland and his camp on a lucrative new deal.

According to The Mirror, Manchester City are confident Erling Haaland will sign a new deal to prolong his stay at the Etihad. The prolific Norwegian has two and a half years left on his existing contract, and the Cityzens are eager to make him the highest-paid player in the Premier League.

Erling Haaland continued his prolific goalscoring form for Manchester City, and club chiefs are hopeful the striker will stay for the foreseeable future. The Norwegian has two and a half years left on his existing deal, which pays around £375,000 a week, which is just short of the £400,000 a week fellow teammate Kevin De Bruyne makes.

The latter is also the highest-paid Premier League player at the moment, as Manchester City are eager to make Haaland an offer that would eclipse that of the Belgian. The report states that the club are open to offering Haaland an astonishing £500,000-a-week offer, not including bonuses, that would make him the highest-paid player in the league.

Haaland’s current package nets him a huge chunk in bonuses, which is over and above his base salary of £375,000 a week. The add-ons part will undoubtedly remain and could also be improved, as Haaland is already negotiating a new deal with Manchester City

Further talks with his camp have concluded that the 24-year-old star would be open to penning a new deal that could extend his stay until the conclusion of the 2028-29 season, adding two more years to his existing agreement. Manchester City are confident Haaland will renew, as some essential details, such as a release clause, still need to be ironed out.

Haaland’s camp wants a release clause in place

Haaland has many big suitors, including Real Madrid. Some reports have suggested he could even push for a move to the Bernabeu next summer. His current deal has a release clause in excess of £150 million, and Manchester City are eager to remove it completely.

Haaland wants a release clause in his deal, and his camp is pushing for it to remain there. Hence, there’s a likelihood of the two parties coming to a conclusion of a slight increase in it, which could potentially see it rise to around £200 million. Despite that, having a release clause always represents a risk for clubs, as there are teams like Real Madrid, PSG, and the Saudi Pro League teams capable of triggering any amount.
