Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing 23-year-old Brazilian defender Vanderson from Ligue 1 club AS Monaco.
Liverpool are keeping tabs on 23-year-old AS Monaco defender Vanderson, especially with Trent Alexander-Arnold linked with an exit from the club. Real Madrid are keen on signing the England international and Liverpool are looking at potential alternative alternatives.
Graeme Bailey has revealed to Rousing The Kop that Liverpool are looking at players like Vanderson and Jeremie Frimpong. It will be interesting to see if they can get a deal done for the Brazilian. He has proven himself in Ligue 1 with Monaco, and there is no doubt that he has the quality to succeed in the Premier League as well.
“They are 100 per cent doing their due diligence,” he says. “[Jeremie] Frimpong is a player they like a lot, but so does most of Europe.
“I know they’ve checked on Vanderson, they are looking around and seeing what options are out there and they’ve done their work on him, they know he’s available.
“They were one of the clubs who looked at him before he arrived at Monaco, interestingly,” adds Bailey.
“They decided not to go for him then, but he’s settled in well into European football and I certainly think he would be part of the conversation if Alexander-Arnold does leave and they do have to find someone to come in and help fill the void.”
The opportunity to play for Liverpool will be quite attractive for him, and they are one of the biggest clubs in the world. They could provide him with the platform to push for major trophies every season.
Can Liverpool keep Alexander Arnold?
Meanwhile, Liverpool will be desperate to keep Alexander Arnold at the club beyond this season. He is a boyhood Liverpool fan, and he has helped the club win major trophies during his time at the club. The 26-year-old is widely regarded as the best right back in world football and losing him would be a devastating blow for the club. It remains to be seen whether they can convince him to sign a contract with them.
His current deal expires at the end of the season and the two parties have not been able to secure an extension yet.
Meanwhile, the Brazilian defender is quite good at both ends of the pitch and he will help Liverpool keep things compact at the back and create goalscoring opportunities in the final third. It will be interesting to see if they decide to make a move for him in the coming months.
