Fiorentina are considering re-signing their academy graduate Federico Chiesa from Liverpool in the upcoming transfer window.
According to a report from Fichajes, Federico Chiesa could soon make a return to Italy as things have not gone according to plan for him at Liverpool. Fiorentina are keen on re-signing him, and the Serie A outfit could offer him a chance to revive himself.
Chiesa came up the ranks at La Viola. He got promoted to their first team back in 2016 and made quite a name for himself while playing for their senior side. After establishing himself as one of the best young talents in Italian football, the winger ended up joining Juventus towards the end of 2020.
While it was an initial loan transfer, the move became permanent in the summer of 2022. Chiesa had a few exciting seasons at the Turin-based club before injuries derailed his progress. To get things back on track, he ended up making a move to Liverpool in the summer.
The frustrating Liverpool move
Unfortunately, the move to Merseyside club has not gone according to plan for him as he has been involved in just three games and has racked up just 78 minutes of first-team action. Chiesa has failed to adjust to life in England, and he has not been able to win the trust of Arne Slot.
The former Juventus winger is frustrated by the lack of minutes, and he is considering parting ways with the Reds in January, just six months after joining them. While his contract with Liverpool runs until the summer of 2028, Liverpool won’t mind getting his £150,000-a-week wages off their books, as he is not an important part of their plans.
Chiesa could return to Italy
Federico Chiesa could be on his way back to Italy where multiple top clubs are keen on signing him. While there is no shortage of interest in his services from his homeland, Fiorentina seem to be the most likely destination for him. The Italian international came up the ranks at the club and already has a strong bond with those in charge.
La Viola want more firepower in the final third of the pitch, and Chiesa could be a sensational acquisition for them. While he has been struggling to get going in recent seasons, the Italian international is only 27 and could still turn things around. His arrival could be a massive boost for the squad as well as the fans.
