Manchester United are reportedly mulling over a part-exchange deal to sign 25-year-old Nigerian international Victor Osimhen from Serie A club Napoli.
According to an update by Italian journalist Gerardo Fasano on Area Napoli, Victor Osimhen is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are weighing up a part-exchange deal to sign the 25-year-old striker from Napoli and could offer Joshua Zirkzee to the Serie A club as part of the bizarre arrangement.
Victor Osimhen and a topsy-turvy career
Victor Osimhen has found a stable footing at Galatasaray after a frustrating summer transfer window. Napoli signed Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea in the summer transfer window before desperately looking for a new destination for Osimhen. While Chelsea wanted to sign the African attacker, the move did not see the light of day.
So, Galatasaray rescued the 25-year-old, who has taken to life in Turkiye like a fish to water. Osimhen has contributed to 12 goals in nine appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net eight times and providing four assists.
Meanwhile, Osimhen’s progress at Galatasaray has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Recent reports have linked the Nigerian international with many Premier League bigwigs, with Manchester United among his prospective suitors.
Manchester United interested
Manchester United’s interest in Victor Osimhen is understandable, considering they might offer Joshua Zirkzee in the part-exchange deal to sign him from Napoli. Zirkzee has struggled to stamp his authority since arriving at Old Trafford from Bologna in the summer transfer window. In addition, the Dutch attacker has fallen behind Rasmus Hojlund in the pecking order.
So, several strikers, including Harry Kane, have emerged on Manchester United’s radar. However, Osimhen is also a viable target for the Premier League heavyweights, and they might offer Zirkzee in a bizarre part-exchange deal to sign the 25-year-old striker from Napoli next year.
It is unclear if the Serie A giants are open to getting Zirkzee in the deal to sell the Nigerian forward. With Romelu Lukaku making his mark at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, the Partenopei might not need another striker. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if Manchester United can land Osimhen in a part-exchange deal.
