Serie A champions Inter Milan are reportedly ahead of three fellow Italian top-flight clubs in the race to secure the services of Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa.
According to a report by Quotidiano Sportiva, as relayed by Iotifo Inter, Federico Chiesa is the subject of interest from Inter Milan. AC Milan, AS Roma, and Napoli are also keen on signing the Liverpool forward in the January transfer window. However, the Serie A champions are “steps ahead” of their fellow Italian top-flight clubs in the race to secure the services of the 51-cap Italian international.
Federico Chiesa and his frustrating career turn
Federico Chiesa has struggled to make his mark since joining Liverpool from Juventus in a cut-price deal in August 2024. The former Fiorentina winger was once among the most exciting young prospects in Serie A but has been a shell of his best since returning from a long-term knee injury.
The 27-year-old blew hot and cold throughout the 2023/24 season and has barely featured this term. Chiesa has managed only 78 minutes of game time across three appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, providing one assist. Persistent fitness issues have plagued the summer arrival in the first few months of the 2024/25 campaign.
However, Chiesa’s stock in the market remains high, with several Serie A clubs setting their sights on him. Widespread reports have linked him with Inter Milan, AC Milan, AS Roma, and Napoli, with the Nerazzurri “steps ahead” of the other Italian top-flight outfits in the race to land the Liverpool forward.
A man in demand
Inter Milan can do with a player like Federico Chiesa despite the player’s fitness issues this term. The former Juventus winger will bring extensive Serie A experience to the table, and he can be a game-changer off the bench. As for AC Milan, the Liverpool attacker’s versatility makes him an appealing target.
Meanwhile, AS Roma’s interest in Federico Chiesa is understandable, considering his qualities make him the ideal foil to Romelu Lukaku. As for Napoli, Chiesa can alternate with Matteo Politano and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the flanks. However, AC Milan, AS Roma, and Napoli are behind Inter Milan in the battle.
Recent reports have painted a contradictory picture about Chiesa’s stance, although Liverpool might not be open to cashing in on the 27-year-old if they remain alive in all competitions. So, it will be interesting to see if the 51-cap Italian international returns to his homeland in January.
