Wolves keen on signing Wataru Endo from Liverpool

Wolves are interested in acquiring the services of Liverpool defensive midfielder Wataru Endo when the transfer window reopens.

According to a report from Football Insider, Wolves are looking to reinforce their squad in January and they are keen on signing Wataru Endo who is surplus to requirements at Liverpool. The Reds look ready to sanction his departure for the right price and Gary O’Neil’s team are gearing up to make the most out of it.

Wataru Endo’s time at Anfield

Endo joined the Merseyside club in the summer of 2023 from VfB Stuttgart. He was a stop-gap signing for the Reds who had failed to sign their priority defensive midfield target back then.

While he did have a decent debut campaign at Anfield, the Japanese defensive midfielder is not an important part of Arne Slot’s plans. The Dutch manager doesn’t count on him and has only handed him 166 minutes of first-team action so far.

Slot has used Ryan Gravenberch in the number six role and the Dutch international has excelled playing in a position that he isn’t fully familiar with. While the Reds are quite happy with his performances, their search for a new defensive midfielder continues after they failed to lure Martin Zubimendi to the club in the summer.

They will once again look at the market for a new number six and they do have the funds to spend in the winter after hardly doing any business before the start of the season. If the Reds manage to sign a new defensive midfielder, they will be more than happy to sanction the departure of Endo who isn’t an important part of Slot’s team.

Wolves plotting a move for Endo

While multiple English clubs have registered their interest in his signature, Wolves are the ones who seem to be quite serious about their pursuit. They have made a poor start to the new campaign with just one win in 11 outings. They are 19th on the points table and are looking to make the necessary moves to ensure they avoid the drop.

People at the club believe Endo can help their cause and they are ready to make a move for the Liverpool start in the winter. With the Reds ready to sell for the right price, Wolves do stand a chance of striking a deal for his services.
