Edu exit will not change William Saliba future amid Real Madrid links

Edu Gaspar’s sudden exit from Arsenal will have no impact on the future of William Saliba amidst interest from Real Madrid.

According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Edu Gaspar’s departure from Arsenal will not change their plans with regards to William Saliba. The Gunners are keen on securing his long-term future amidst interest from Real Madrid and will continue to work on a potential contract renewal.

Saliba has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the world and his consistent performances have attracted a lot of interest from across Europe. Real Madrid have identified the French international as an ideal option to reinforce their backline that is struggling to cope with injures and Mikel Arteta is concerned because of the immense pull of the Spanish giants.

The 23-year-old centre-back is an integral part of the Spanish manager’s plans, and he wants him around at all costs. While his contract at the North London club runs until the summer of 2027, Arsenal want to secure his services with a new long-term deal.

Edu Gaspar’s departure, Saliba’s new long-term deal

Edu was the one who was supposed to get the deal for William Saliba over the line. However, Arsenal recently suffered a massive blow as the sporting director parted ways with the club. Evangelos Marinakis, the Greek businessman who owns Nottingham Forest, Olympiacos and Rio Ave wanted the Brazilian to oversee his clubs and Edu was keen on taking a global role that would see him receive a massive pay hike.

He has given the green light to the move and will be serving a six-month gardening leave before taking on the new role. His departure has complicated things for Arsenal who now need to look for a new sporting director and also ensure they have the future of their stars secure.

Saliba is one of the most sought-after players in the North London club and Madrid could soon come knocking for his services following Eder Militao’s serious knee injury. To avoid losing the 23-year-old to Los Blancos, they are ready to offer him a new lucrative deal and Edu’s departure is not going to derail their plans.

Talks over a new contract will not be impacted as the lines of communication between the French international’s representatives and Arsenal remain open. The Gunners are ready to start renewal talks with their star defender before the end of the ongoing season.
