Newcastle United contact Napoli to discuss Victor Osimhen move

Newcastle United have reportedly contacted Napoli to enquire about the availability of Victor Osimhen, with Arsenal and Chelsea also interested in him.

According to a report by Sabah, as relayed by Sport Witness, Victor Osimhen is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies have contacted Napoli to ask about the availability of the Nigerian striker, currently on loan at Galatasaray. Meanwhile, the player is also a target for Arsenal and Chelsea, with the Serie A giants demanding €75 million to part ways with him.

Victor Osimhen and his rollercoaster career

Victor Osimhen has been a solid performer since joining Galatasaray on loan from Napoli in the summer transfer window. The African attacker hoped to move to Chelsea after turning down the riches of the Saudi Pro League. However, the move did not see the light of day after the West London club attempted to secure his services until the summer deadline.

Osimhen has not let that affect him, amassing eight goals and four assists in nine appearances thus far for Galatasaray. Meanwhile, the Nigerian striker’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Newcastle United. In addition, Turkish giants Fenerbahce want to sign him, while Galatasaray will look to seal a permanent move.

A man in demand

While recent reports have claimed that Arsenal will not cough up €75 million to sign Osimhen, he is a viable target for the North London club. With Gabriel Jesus struggling to make his mark in the final third and Mikel Arteta using Kai Havertz in multiple roles, Arsenal can do with a prolific striker.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s interest in Victor Osimhen is understandable. The West London club signed only one striker in the summer transfer window, but Marc Guiu is not ready to be the first-choice centre-forward. While Nicolas Jackson has made his mark this season, Chelsea can do with a top-notch alternative to the Senegalese international. So, Osimhen is a viable target for the Blues.

As for Newcastle United, the Magpies are sweating over the long-term future of Alexander Isak. Interestingly, the Swedish international is a target for Arsenal and Chelsea. So, Newcastle United must scour the market for a striker, with Osimhen emerging as a target. The Magpies have contacted Napoli to enquire about the Nigerian international’s availability.

Newcastle United should have the funds to afford a deal worth €75 million to sign Osimhen if they sell Isak. However, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Fenerbahce, and Galatasaray also keen, the Tyneside outfit might face a tall order to sign the 25-year-old from Napoli.
